TLC 90 DAY FHV Storage Rule

Good afternoon:

All FHV vehicle licensees with TLC plates can put their vehicle license in storage for up to 90 days.

The vehicle license can only be placed in storage one time during the term of the license. Once the license is placed in storage and is removed, it cannot be placed back in storage.

You cannot operate your vehicle as a “for-hire” vehicle when your vehicle license is in storage. Operating for-hire without a current vehicle license is a violation of TLC rules

Due to the closure of all NYS DMV offices individual owners of a vehicle with TLC plates will not be able to obtain passenger plates for their vehicles. As such the TLC will allow you to retain your TLC issued DMV plates until such time as the DMV re-opens their offices and you can surrender and obtain passenger plates for your vehicle. You cannot operate for-hire once you submit the storage form request. If you are found to be  operating as an FHV, you will be subject to being summonsed and your vehicle is subject to being seized.

STEP TO PLACE VEHICLE LICENSE IN STORAGE:

Print the storage form Vehicle License Storage Form (PDF) from the TLC website (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/tlc/vehicles/for-hire-vehicle.page).
Please follow link for form: https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/tlc/downloads/pdf/for_hire_vehicle_license_storage_form.pdf

Email the VEHICLE LICENSE STORAGE form (Please do not come to our Long Island City Facility to submit documentation.  We will only accept documents via email.)

To view a SNAP SHOT of your complete TLC record or update it (add email address, change address, phone # etc.), kindly follow link to TLC UP.  http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/industry/jump_tlcup_portal.shtml.

Respectfully,
